Around Yonsei, there are many different types of accommodations that you can choose from including:
I went with the dorming option since I was never able to experience it in Hawaii. The housing application for Yonsei is really competitive so make sure to save the date when the application opens. You will receive emails prior to the application opening, then you have to go to the housing website here to create an account. On the day of the application opens, make sure to log in 10-20 minutes prior so that you are all set to go. For me, since the housing application was going to open at 10 AM on June 12 KST, I had to go on at 3 PM on June 11 HST to ensure that I could get a room. Warning: The website might lag once it opens because there are so many students getting on the site, so just be patient with it. You can check your results by clicking ‘My Page” after logging in. Yonsei will announce the date that the housing results come out. If you get the status “Accepted,” that means you got the housing that you requested for. After that, you will have 10 days to submit the payment for housing. The housing portal will show the amount that you have to pay and how you should pay for it. I opted for a double room at SK Global since it was cheaper than a single room. Also, SK Global has a lot of amenities like a small fitness center, a kitchen in the basement, and a mini computer lab so I thought it would be the best option for me. Double check with your bank to see if they do international wire transfers. American Savings Bank has a $45 international wire transfer fee for under $5000, but they could only process it during 9 AM - 11 AM. It helps if you print out the form on their website to fill out all the necessary information because the bank teller would use it to type out the information. Make sure to double check everything before they process the transfer. Mich Tip: Don’t worry the housing process is complicated but, as long as you note down the dates or put it in your calendar then you should be able to get the dorm or housing you choose. Good luck!

Now it is time to make your VISA! Make sure that you filled out everything on the VISA application prior to going to the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hawaii in person. If you have any questions about the application, I would call prior to coming in, so that it makes the process easier. I would suggest getting this completed ASAP because it does take about two weeks for the Consulate to process it.
Here are the things that you will need for your application:
Mich Tip: The Consulate does have a lunch break between 12 - 1 PM, so plan accordingly when you are trying to submit your VISA application. You can find more information about the Consulate here. Good luck! After your nomination to Yonsei University, you will now have to apply to the school itself. It is an online application that may take about an hour or two to complete. However it took me a while because I wanted someone to proofread the response to my questions.
Things you will need in order to complete your application:
Good luck! Studying abroad in a foreign country can seem very daunting, however you should not let that stop you. UH Mānoa offers two types of programs if you are interested in going abroad; Mānoa International Exchange (MIX) and the UH Study Abroad Center (SAC). After doing extensive research, I decided to apply to MIX. Here are some things that you will need in order to apply to the MIX program:
Mānoa International Exchange
Mich Tip: I would suggest getting this application as soon as possible so that you can get your top choice, and you start to get busy towards the ending of the semester. And if you ever need any help make sure to reach out to the MIX advisors, they are super helpful in answering any questions that you might have! Good luck! |
